What is My Pig Filled Life?
My Pig Filled Life is both a rescue and a sanctuary, dedicated to promoting and supporting the rescue and care of mini pigs by providing the compassion, commitment and companionship they deserve. Most pigs come to us as rescues and are cared for and socialized with the expectation that they will be adoptable. Others will never be adopted but have permanent sanctuary here. The rescue was founded by Melanie Moreau and her first pig, Pearl. They have rescued 371 pigs in four years and currently have more than 200 adoptable pigs.
Where is MPFL located?
Our little sanctuary is nestled on 20 acres in Wills Point, Texas, which is about 50 miles east of Dallas. We're so remote that even Google Maps can't find us! For detailed directions, schedule a visit.
Do you rescue other animals?
MPFL is specifically dedicated to promoting and supporting the rescue and care of mini pigs, but we do offer sanctuary to a few "farm pigs" previously destined for a dinner plate. Our land also houses a few chickens, goats and others, but we are dedicated to the welfare of MINI PIGS.
Who runs My Pig Filled Life?
Melanie Moreau is our founder and lives on property with the 276 pigs in occupancy today. Our day to day operations are supported by volunteers. Business decisions are made by Melanie with oversight from our Board of Directors.
How do I visit MPFL?
Visits from potential adopters, volunteers, belly rubbers and other well wishers are by appointment. We typically make appointments in the evenings on weekdays and all day on weekends. Visitors are provided a short tutorial to optimize their piggy interactions, and you will be asked to sign a waiver. For more information, check out our information sheet.
How do I adopt a mini pig?
You can get started by reviewing our information sheet on How to Adopt from MPFL. Our process is rigorous to ensure that our rescues find the right forever families. Note that MPFL is a Texas-based rescue that adopts almost exclusively to Texas residents. We offer only pigs that are at least 12 weeks old, weigh at least 15 lbs, and are altered. We do not transport or ship pigs nor allow third party transport of adopted pigs to their new homes. Property requirements are specific, and a home visit is mandatory. Still interested? Review and fill out our application!
How do I get involved?
There are so many ways to get involved! Those within driving distance can make a huge difference spending time with the piggies, giving belly rubs and affection. There is always a need for manual labor, as the work of caring for our rescues and improving their living conditions is never finished. For remote supporters, there are opportunities to contribute to marketing, operations and administrative tasks. Ultimately we can't operate without funding, and many supporters find donations to be the easiest way to support our cause.
How do I donate to your rescue?
We accept general donations through Network for Good, PayPal or Venmo - but we encourage you to connect with the piggies and our rescue by targeting your donation to the need that speaks most personally to you. For example, sponsorship of a specific pig for less than $1 a day will ensure all of that pig's needs are met each month. Donations can be targeted to a specific need such as feed or spay/neuter costs. If you're a dreamer, DARE TO DREAM with us of a better life for our rescues! Every dollar for every cause makes a difference.
How are my donation dollars used?
Your donations directly benefit the pigs - 95% of donations provide feed, veterinary care, shelter. Your donations do not pay salaries to MPFL. We have earned a Platinum Seal of Transparency, the highest level of recognition awarded by GuideStar, the world's largest source of information about nonprofit organizations.
Are my donations tax-deductible? Yes! Donations made to My Pig Filled Life, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
